Native Plant Walk with
Blandy’s Assistant Curator

Thursday, September 17 | 10-11 a.m.
Join Blandy’s assistant curator and native plant expert Jack Monsted for a guided walk around the native plant trail. Ask your native plant questions, learn to identify various native and invasive plants, and discover how we manage the various habitats along the trail. The walk is a 0.6 mile loop. Masks are required. Meet directly in front of the brick Quarters building.

Mindful Contemplation of
Natural Environments
Saturday, September 19 | 10 a.m.-Noon
Mindfulness-based practices are well regarded for supporting stress reduction and wellness.  Join instructor Brown Sharp II to learn more about mindfulness and how it can be practiced while appreciating and enjoying natural environments. The class will include gentle stretching and guided meditation. Masks are required, and social distancing will be in place. Please bring a yoga mat and (if you have one) a sitting cushion. Chairs will also be provided. Meet in the front parking lot near the brick Quarters building.
To support a prompt start time at 10 a.m.,
please plan to arrive 15 minutes early.
Enrollment is limited, but if there is sufficient interest, similar programs may be offered in the future.

Warbler Walk 
Thursday, September 24 | 8–10 a.m.
Late September is the peak of fall songbird migration. Join Blandy director and birding enthusiast Dr. Dave Carr in search of southbound warblers, vireos, flycatchers, and others. Bring your own binoculars. Also, remember you'll need to wear a mask and practice social distancing during the walk. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. Meet at the flagpole at the front parking lot close to the information kiosk.

Hey kids (and parents!), do you have a burning question about bees? Here’s your chance to ask a bug scientist! Join us on Blandy’s Facebook page for a live Q&A.

  Harvest Moon Walk
Thursday, October 1 | 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Explore the arboretum under the harvest moon. Meet near the 
information kiosk at the parking lot. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a flashlight. Masks are required, and remember to practice social distancing during the walk. We'll stop periodically for comments and questions. Then we'll stop and watch the moon come up over the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Invasive Plant Workshop 
Wednesday, October 7 | 1-5 p.m.
Presented by Blue Ridge PRISM

Understanding what invasive plants exist in the landscape and what it will take to control them can often feel overwhelming. This workshop will enable you to learn how to confidently identify and manage invasive plants. Topics covered in this session include:
• Identifying invasive plants
• Which invasives you can best kill now
• Which invasives you should treat later
• Best seasonal practices for each invasive
• Planning a work schedule with best timings for 
  multiple plants...and much more!

Creepy Crawlies 
Saturday, October 10 | 10-11 a.m.
Saturday, October 24 | 2-3 p.m.

 (Same event is being offered twice.)
Come learn about worms, owls, zombie bugs, and other creepy crawly creatures at this family-friendly nature talk. Take home a fall activity box. Meet at the outdoor amphitheater near the brick Quarters building. Masks are required. Seating areas will be marked on the grass to help groups socially distance.

   Winter Migrants Bird Walk
Friday, October 30 | 8-10 a.m.
Guess who’s coming to visit? Around this time of year, birds from northern forests fly south in search of overwintering grounds. Join Blandy director and birding enthusiast Dr. Dave Carr to look for sparrows, Ruby- and Golden-crowned Kinglets, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, and others. Bring your own binoculars. Also, remember you’ll need to wear a mask and practice social distancing during the walk. Meet at the flagpole at the front parking lot close to the information kiosk.  Arboretum Walking Tour
Tuesday, November 3 | 2-3 p.m.
Explore the Arboretum’s gardens and collections in the fall season. We will walk approximately a half-mile over gently rolling terrain. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing during the walk. Meet at the flagpole at the front parking lot close to the information kiosk. Free!

Snowbird Walk
Friday, November 20 | 8-10 a.m.
Our winter residents have come home to roost! Join Blandy director and birding enthusiast Dr. Dave Carr in search of Purple Finches, Pine Siskins, Northern Harriers, and others. Bring your own binoculars. Also, remember you’ll need to wear a mask and practice social distancing during the walk. Meet at the flagpole at the front parking lot close to the information kiosk.
