Summer Camps

Blandy Summer Camps

Blandy summer camps offer a week filled with fun and adventure exploring all things outdoors.  We believe the experiences youth have in nature support growth and learning, and we design our camps to encourage children's natural curiosity, sense of adventure and wonder, environmental awareness, knowledge, and stewardship.

Our Discover Camps guide younger, elementary aged explorers in experiencing nature through curiosity-driven nature hikes, crafts, games, and sensory learning.  We keep our educator-to-camper ratio for these camps at 1:6 or better.

Our EcoExplorers camp is aimed at middle-school campers and is based on inquiry-driven exploration and learning.  Campers explore Blandy's meadows, ponds, and woodlands, allowing curiosity and observation to lead to questions and discoveries.  Blandy's educators and scientists guide campers as they dig deeper into their questions about the natural world.  On the last day, we invite families and Blandy scientists to join us as campers present their findings.  Due to the more intensive nature of this camp, our staff-to-camper ratio is usually around 1:4.

Scientist Involvement:
All of our camps include participation by college students enrolled in our Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program.  The REU program is an 11-week intensive research experience sponsored by the National Science Foundation for students from across the United States and U.S. territories.  As part of this program, students are asked to share their research with the public, and they fulfill this requirement by working with the Blandy Education Team to create a meaningful, hands-on activity to share at our camps.  Year in and year out, campers LOVE meeting and learning from the REU students!
