Carrie Whitacre
Assistant Curator, Herbaceous Gardens
I am an experienced horticulturist with a strong background in public garden management, greenhouse production, and landscape maintenance. My career spans municipal and institutional settings, where I’ve designed and maintained educational gardens, managed budgets, and led teams of staff and volunteers. I am passionate about connecting people with plants and the natural world through innovative educational programs, workshops, and community engagement.
As a Certified Arborist and Certified Heritage Interpreter, I bring expertise in plant science, environmental education, and sustainable resource management. My academic foundation includes dual Master’s degrees in Parks & Resource Management and Environmental Education, along with a Bachelor’s in Horticulture.
I thrive on creating spaces and experiences that inspire environmental stewardship and appreciation for biodiversity. Whether through hands-on instruction, public events, or collaborative projects, my goal is to make horticulture accessible and meaningful for all.
