Spring Wildflower Watch- April 11th

April is a great time to see spring ephemeral wildflowers at Blandy, so be sure to check out the woodland section of the Native Plant Trail on your next visit. Still rivers of Virginia Bluebells this week, interspersed with violet Wild Blue Phlox, bright yellow Wood Poppies and Leafy Toadshades, Bloodroots, and Mayapples. Herb Robert (not a Virginia native) appears in a few discrete patches along stone walls.

Spring Wildflower Watch- March 29th

Spring! Finally!

Over the coming weeks, new spring ephemeral wildflowers will start popping up in the woodland area of the Native Plant Trail. In a stroll through the woodland this morning, we spotted Virginia Bluebells (Mertensia virginia), Toadshade Trillium (Trillium sessile), a few cheery Wood Poppies (Stylophotum diphyllum), and a smattering of Rue-anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides). Largeflower Bellwort (Uvularia grandiflora) and Jacob's Ladder (Polemonium reptans) are on deck.

Spotlight

In 2011, a group of bicycling arborists paused at the Arboretum and planted 35 trees in an hour. That planting kicked off our Community Forest, a multi-year community tree planting to expand the forest for wildlife near the front entrance. See the forest today!
