Blandy Upgrades Signage

New Signs for the Centennial

As part of our Centennial Celebration, we are excited to introduce a new initiative aimed at enhancing the visitor experience: the replacement of directional and wayfinding signs throughout the Arboretum. If you have visited in the last month or two, we are sure you have noticed our new signage featuring enlarged maps, trail markers, better building and collection identification signs, and directional signage for vehicles and pedestrians.

There are 73 new signs in all, from our front entrance stone walls, now welcoming Arboretum visitors with Virginia’s trademark dogwood flowers, to more directional signs featuring a pleasing color palette and easy to read information.

“Our new signage features a specially designed aesthetic that complements the Arboretum's natural beauty while ensuring durability and legibility. We think these updates make it easier for all visitors to navigate our stunning landscape,” said Anne Marie Chirieleison, Director of the Foundation of the State Arboretum (FOSA).

This $200,000, multi-year initiative is a collaborative effort supported by Blandy, FOSA, UVA’s Office of the Architect, and UVA's Arboretum and Grounds Committee. Together, we’re committed to creating an inviting environment that reflects our mission of conservation and education.
