Inspiring Virginians to create healthy landscapes by supporting Blandy's Scientific exploration and educational goals.
The Foundation of the State Arboretum (FOSA) is a 501(c)(3) organization that supports Blandy's research and educational goals, enhances Blandy's value as a public institution, and helps maintain the Arboretum's many collections.
FOSA's dedicated Board of Directors, and hundreds of members help support the Foundation and champion the State Arboretum of Virginia as it paves the way for healthier landscapes across the state of Virginia.

Virginia's Lanscapes are Healthier and More Sustainable
We believe that a healthier and more sustainable landscape is the cornerstone of livable communities. When landscapes thrive, so do the people that live in them. Clean air, waterways, and lands ensure safer places for Virginians to live, learn, and play. Strong communities build healthy environments that will support Virginia’s plant biodiversity into the future.

Virginia's Become Better Stewards of the Landscape
Virginians must take the landscape into consideration when making choices. Our homes, cities, and communities can change based on what we plant in the ground, how we manage our waterways, and how we take care of our developed and undeveloped spaces. Stewardship requires that we understand science, human impact, and our own history.

Blandy Experimental Farm is a Leading Ecological Research Station
Founded 100 years ago, Blandy Experimental Farm and the State Arboretum of Virginia are directed by onsite academic faculty from the University of Virginia’s Department of Environmental Sciences. The site boasts laboratories, greenhouses, and research fields dedicated to ongoing investigations.
Throughout the year, the State Arboretum of Virginia also hosts undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students from across the country, supporting faculty from universities to advance environmental research. This research is shared with Virginians through the arboretum’s various educational programs and publications.
There are many ways you can be involved and help us further our mission of supporting research, environmental education, and outreach here at the State Arboretum of Virginia.
