Spring Wildflower Watch- April 18th
Enjoy the Flory Iris Garden
A symbol of enduring faith and hope, the Iris, (Iris), known for its slender tall stalks, both soft and vibrant colors and its delicate, cascading, and rising petals has been growing at Blandy Experimental Farm since at least the 1950s. But early this May, the bearded iris cultivars in this legacy collection and additional varieties will unveil their spring beauty more fervently in the backdrop of the newly renovated Walter Flory Memorial Iris Garden.

Exploring Native Spring Ephemerals at Blandy Experimental Farm
Amidst Virginia's diverse ecological landscape, one encounters a captivating and transient spectacle: the emergence of native spring ephemerals. As winter gives way to spring, these delicate wildflowers emerge from the forest floor, adding vibrant colors to the awakening ecosystem.
Spring Wildflower Watch- March 29th
Spring! Finally!
Over the coming weeks, new spring ephemeral wildflowers will start popping up in the woodland area of the Native Plant Trail. In a stroll through the woodland this morning, we spotted Virginia Bluebells (Mertensia virginia), Toadshade Trillium (Trillium sessile), a few cheery Wood Poppies (Stylophotum diphyllum), and a smattering of Rue-anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides). Largeflower Bellwort (Uvularia grandiflora) and Jacob's Ladder (Polemonium reptans) are on deck.
