What and How
Garden volunteers work with the arboretum's assistant curator to maintain the Herb Garden, Pollination Garden, Iris Garden, and more. Some common tasks include weeding, planting, spreading mulch, watering plants, and labeling specimens.
No experience is necessary. Whether you are an experienced gardener or just beginning to get your hands dirty, volunteering in the gardens is a great way to learn more about gardening including native plants and nonnative ornamentals. Join us now and contribute to the experience of our visitors, meet new people, and enjoy the beauty of the arboretum!
Where and When
Volunteers meet every Tuesday and Thursday during the growing season from 9 am – 12 pm, weather permitting. Regular meetings generally run from early April - November, with occasional meetings in the off-season as needed. All regular communication for this group is by email. The assistant curator will send an email to all registered volunteers the evening before each volunteer shift, informing them of any changes to the regular schedule and providing a brief description of anticipated volunteer activities for that day.
