Dr. Shelley Viola Murphy, the genealogist from the University of Virginia, will deliver a presentation shedding light on the historical significance of the Tuleyries mansion in Clarke County, VA. Throughout generations, this site served as a place of enslavement for African-descended individuals, whose labor played a pivotal role in upholding the affluence of the Tuley family and others in the area. The presentation will delve into the Tuley family’s deep connection to slavery and explore the difficulties and approaches involved in tracing the descendants of those who were once enslaved. Please share with family and community members.
